Billy Ray Sofley, 90, of Crofton, Maryland died Wednesday, August 23, 2023. He was born December 24, 1932 to Harley and Jessie Sofley.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty and daughter, Cindy and is survived by his three daughters, Debbie Sofley, Sharon Higginbotham and Robin Thompson; six grandchildren, Kristen Sofley, Allyson Smith, Mackenzie Thompson, Jack Higginbotham, Ryan Higginbotham, and Michael Thompson; and three great grandchildren, Cameron Cawthorne, Aryana Sofley, and Dominic Cawthorne. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 31st from 10am to 11am followed by funeral services at 11am at Grace Baptist Church, 7210 Racetrack Rd, Bowie, MD 20715.
Billy attended Mocksville High School prior to attending the Appalachian State University. Following his college years, and while serving in the United States Navy, he met and married his wife, Betty. During his years of service, they lived on both coasts raising their children before retiring after 22 years in Maryland. Billy spent the next 20 years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Company working in several positions including a Logistics Assistant, Project Manager, Purchase/Contracts Manager and Financial Analyst. Upon his second retirement, Billy spent the last 22 years faithfully serving Grace Baptist Church in many roles including Financial Accountant, Church Usher, Teller and Member of the Grace Baptist Church Missions Committee.
Billy was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who touched so many lives in so many ways. He was truly an inspiration to his family and his spirit will live with us forever.
