Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurley Funeral Home - Pleasanton on Oct. 11, 2024.
It is with deep sadness but also a celebration of a life well lived that we announce the passing of Billy Ray Terrell, a devoted husband, honorable veteran, and beloved member of the community. Born in Spokane, WA on November 28, 1941, Billy Ray dedicated his life to serving his country as a Flight Engineer in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of MSGT E7.
Billy Ray was not one to shy away from hard work, having also pursued a career as a tree trimmer before later transitioning to become a dedicated truck driver in his later years. Throughout his life, he was known for his competitive spirit, particularly in his love for playing pool where he achieved numerous tournament victories.
A man of unwavering faith, Billy Ray always placed his love for the Lord above all else. He spent his days immersed in scripture and was a devoted member of The Door Christian Church, previously attending Halleluiah House. He was a great provider for his family, always ensuring his wife was loved and cared for.
Even in his retirement, Billy Ray continued to be an active member of the community, running daily errands and never missing the opportunity to spread the Gospel to those he encountered. He would greet everyone with a smile, proclaiming that he was "blessed, redeemed, and highly favored of the Lord."
Billy Ray is preceded in death by his parents Billy J. and Margaret Terrell. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Lilia Terrell; sons Joel Gomez, Jose Manuel Rios, Billy Ray Terrell Jr., Mark Allen Terrell (Vanessa), and Ronald Terrell; daughters Sylvia Gomez, Patricia Rios, and Maria Rios Martinez (Alex); brother Steve Terrell; sisters Carol Wheeler, Mary Jones, Linda Smith, and Debra Kalisek; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Billy Ray Terrell's legacy of service, faith, and love will forever be cherished by all who knew him. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. and funeral services will be Friday, October 25, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. followed by burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
