Birdie Rae "Ross" Johnson

Birdie Rae Johnson, 72, of Galion, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Avita Health Systems - Galion Hospital.

Birdie was born in Kentucky on March 31, 1953, to the late John and Carrie (Clarkson) Ross.

Birdie will be remembered as a loving, caring soul whose kindness touched both people and animals alike. She had a natural way of making others feel looked after, whether it was a family member who needed comfort, a friend who needed a warm meal, or one of the neighborhood's stray cats that found their way to her doorstep. Birdie had a special place in her heart for the stray neighborhood cats, faithfully caring for them and making sure they were fed and safe whenever she could.

Family was at the center of Birdie's life, and one of the ways she showed her love was through cooking. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and wonderful smells. Among the many meals she made, her eggplant spaghetti and biscuits and gravy were family favorites that brought everyone happily to the table.

Birdie also had a deep curiosity about where she and her family came from. She loved genealogy and spent countless hours researching family history, piecing together stories from the past and preserving them for future generations. It was a passion that connected her not only to history but also to the people she loved most.

At heart, Birdie appreciated life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed relaxing at home and watching television, especially her favorite show, Reba, which often brought her laughter and comfort.

Those left to cherish Birdie's memories is her life partner of almost 35 years, Sam Lambert; her daughter, Charyl Harris; her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nana", Samantha Harris, Jessica Harris and Chase Bachelder; her great-grandchildren; Karson George, Kennadie Harris and Kenzley Edginton; as well as siblings, including, Laura Maynard, Emma Larie, Larry Palmer and Dorothy "Dottie" Vance.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery, 1295 Fairview Ave., Galion, OH 44833.
