Birgit Susanne Drouin, age 63, passed away at her home in Meadowview, VA on March 11, 2026. Birgit was born on March 15, 1962, in Aschaffenburg, Germany alongside her twin sister, Claudia.
In 1980, Birgit gave birth to her only child, Daniel Heininger, in Wasserlos, Germany. In Spring 1989, Birgit met the love of her life, Chris Drouin, at her sister Eva’s wedding while Chris was stationed in Hanau, Germany as a United States Army Soldier. In Fall 1989, the couple wed in Germany before Chris returned to the United States bringing home his new bride. The couple lived in multiple cities before settling in Fuquay Varina, NC at the home they built in 1996.
In 2008, Birgit received her United States citizenship and was honored to be an American. Until the very end Birgit loved to make anything and everything, she could the colors red, white, and blue. The United States would be her home even though she wasn’t born here.
Birgit and Chris called Fuquay Varina, NC home for many years before deciding to build their dream home in Meadowview, VA to be close to their son, Daniel, and his growing family. In 2023, the couple retired in what would be their forever home up on the hill. Birgit took much pride in the home and all the effort she made to make it to the haven she would spend the rest of her days.
On December 31, 2024, Birgit was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive Leukemia. Birgit fought hard to the very end and sadly passed away after a long battle on March 11, 2026.
Birgit was so much more than her battle with cancer. She loved her garden and could make anything grow with her gifted green thumb. Birgit was an amazing homemaker, cook, gardener, florist, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Birgit is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 36 years, Chris Drouin; son Daniel Heininger and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren Stevie Grace and Colter Heininger; her twin sister Claudia Horn of Germany; her oldest sister Eva Radwanski of Germany; very special friends who became family, Matt Bost and wife Zoe and their children Daisy and Jackson Bost of Mount Airy, NC; and many other loving friends.
