Birgitta Eivor Moylan, 84, a bacteriologist and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at her Homeland residence. A proud native of Sweden, Birgitta brought her intelligence and vibrant spirit to Baltimore, where she built a distinguished career and a cherished family.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 27, 1941, to Sigurd Valther Jansson, an executive with the Stockholm Tramways, and Irma Birgitta Jansson, formerly Andersson, an owner at Restaurang Fregatten. During her teenage years, Birgitta spent her summers working at her great-aunt's general store on the island of Yxlan in Stockholm's archipelago. She graduated from Bromma kommula flickskola in 1960. She later attended the Karolinska Institute, a renowned medical university, where she trained as a bacteriologist.
In October 1963, Birgitta moved to Baltimore to join the team at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a bacteriologist. It was in Baltimore that she met the love of her life, Martin Moylan, in a charmingly unconventional way. Following an article in News American Sunday Parade about Johns Hopkins, Martin's roommate, Frank de Filippo, was interested in Birgitta and asked the photographer for her contact information. After learning she was 5'10", Frank passed the contact information to his taller roommate, Martin, who was 6'0". On their blind date, Birgitta, whose English was still developing, mistakenly thought Martin was a truck driver because he talked about trucks-a reference to his job at the Interstate Commerce Commission. Fortunately, her Swedish roommate later clarified that he was a lawyer, and their future was sealed.
Birgitta was an active and engaged member of the community. She spent the latter part of her career as a research coordinator and became faculty at the Johns Hopkins Department of Asthma and Allergy. Brigitta was a member of the Johns Hopkins Club and fostered her Swedish heritage through her involvement in the Sveaborg Society of Maryland (a Swedish-American club) and SVEA.
Birgitta is pre-deaseced by her devoted husband, Martin Moylan; her three children, the Honorable Stephan Moylan (Kimberly) of Oakland, MD, Christopher Moylan of Stockholm, Sweden,
and Martina Dilks (Nicholas) of Homeland; her sister, Maja Berg of Degeberga, Sweden; and her brother, Christer Jansson of Stockholm, Sweden. She also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren- Oscar, Lucy, Roland, Martin, Augustus, Margaret and Peter.
The family will announce service arrangements at a later date

Birgitta will be missed. She always brought happiness and kindness wherever she went. Birgitta was instrumental in advancing my career at Hopkins for which I am eternally grateful. But her cooking skills were also amazing. I will never forget her "volunteering" to cater my wife´s 40th birthday party. May she rest in peace after a life well lived.

I also knew Birgitta from her time at Johs Hopkins when she initially worked for me and then joined the clinical group with Bob Naclerio and Alkis Togias. The worls is a less cheerful and happy place without Birgitta. She always managed to bring happiness and joy whenever she entered the room. A Kind and loving person. My sincere condolences to her family. She will be missed.

I first met Birgitta when I came from Lebanon to pursue a research fellowship with Bob Naclerio at Johns Hopkins. Birgitta was so gracious and took such great care of me both at work and outside of the workplace. Was invited to her house frequently and got to meet Martin and all the family. She definitely made my early years at hopkins memorable and I remember those years fondly for many reasons, not the least of which is Birgitta and her kindness and generosity. She was a wonderful person. May she rest in eternal peace!!
