In memory of
Marlene Lundberg

Mr. Gamble sometimes focused on famous quotes in order to make history significant. I still remember "War is hell," by General Sherman. I believe Gamble had been a drum major for the Notre Dame marching band, and he worked with David Mathews, our band director, in creating marching shows for football game intermissions. He lives in our memories. New Carlisle H.S. Class of 1960.

Doris and Shirley; I just now read the obituary for your beloved Blane. He had a wonderful life, filled with many memorable moments. The Gambles will always be very special to me. I remember Shirley being part of the choral program at New Prairie High School and Doris, having the wonderful opportunity to work under your leadership for several years. Blaine was always very supportive of what I did at New Carlisle and New Prairie High Schools with the Choral Program. He was always happy to see the students who were in the athletic programs get involved with music. I know see why this was so knowing what his music background was when he was in high school. Yours truly, Walt Schaltenbrand

I am sending prayers and love to your family. When thinking of my years at New Carlisle High School, Mr. Gamble was a positive influence during our tender years of developing who we would become as adults. He had such a quiet way of helping us learn right from wrong. I am blessed that he was part of my education.

A true friend, teacher, coach & wonderful man. Seems like just yesterday I stood before him as a 17 year old, almost in tears, apologizing for the terrible attempt I had made in trying to run the 880. I don't think so , he said. "I put you in that race because I knew you would never quit on me." The message has stayed with me through a lot of tough times in my life. Thank you Coach for allowing a terrible track athlete to be a part of your Championship Goshen Relays team.As always, GO IRISH.

Doris/Shirley Jean and family - Condolences on your loss. Coach was a mentor, friend and inspiration to many Tigers and Cougars.
IU punished ND in basketball in 1971 so during lunch I ran into his room and wrote giant-sized on the blackboard IU 92 ND 29 - He wasn't happy that his Irish took a pounding from my Hoosiers and I decided to rub it in a bit, so we had to get out our Journalism book and read. Everyone had to go their lockers and get their books because it was the only time we ever opened them. He didn't need a book to teach and we didn't need one to learn.
He will be missed.

Coach Gamble,
In 1980-81 I would on occasion ask you if I could go to the gym and fold football game jerseys for Coach Trosper. I cannot lie, I went to the gym to play dodge ball. I know you knew what I was doing, but still allowed it to take place, thank you.
I just want you to know, all the football jerseys are finally folded, RIP.

Blaine Gamble was the storied originator and creator of what is today the New Prairie High School Cross Country program. From the creation of the course, among the finest high school courses in the midwest if not the nation, to the invitational now in its 50th year, Blaine's influence blazed the trail for coaches who have since followed in his humble footsteps. We will miss his time on this earth but will celebrate the creation of a program replete with his designs, athletes, memories and all of the designs, athletes, and memories which will follow.

I still remember quotes from various famous Americans that we learned in U.S. History class, taught by Blaine Gamble. I remember a book he suggested I read, THE TRAGIC ERA. He was much beloved and remembered by his students at New Carlisle H.S.
My condolences to his family.
Sincerely,
Marlene Cooreman Lundberg, New York City
