Blaine DeWitt Henshaw was born January 22, 1953 in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. Blaine loved nature and spent many of his younger years sailing, scuba diving, fly fishing and skiing. After graduating with the Edison class of 1971, his fascination with marine biology led him to the University of Miami where he spent time studying ocean life, both on the sand and in the classroom.
Blaine loved to travel and spent much of his youth and early adulthood abroad. Upon his return to Oklahoma, Blaine chose to plant roots in his hometown and married Teresa Lee of Tulsa. Together they raised two daughters and a circus of small animals just a few blocks away from the home where he grew up.
In his career, Blaine worked alongside his father, Nathaniel Henshaw, as a real estate developer. Together they built numerous housing developments throughout the greater Tulsa area with the mindset of working with the natural beauty and ecology of the land. Blaine served as the president of the Developer Council for the Metro Tulsa Home Builders Association and as the President of the Homelife Association.
Blaine will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, playful curiosity and genuine compassion for his family, friends and the world around him. He was known to family as "Uncle Magic," and no matter the situation, he always had a trick up his sleeve. His laugh and his love added a gentle levity to the lives he touched that will be forever felt.
Blaine is survived by his daughters Brittany Martin (husband Paul) and Chelsea Dragseth (husband Thomas), his grandchildren (Jack, Hank, Cala and Wilder), his sister Janine VanValkenburgh (husband Kirk), his nieces (Olivia, Natalie, Adrienne and Claire) and his nephew (Parker). He is preceded in death by his parents Nathaniel and Barbara Henshaw and his brother Todd Henshaw.
A celebration of his life will be held on July 6th from 4-6pm at the Clare Michael space at 2314 E Admiral Blvd, in Tulsa. Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
