Blanche Aldridge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Music Funeral Home - Waycross on Mar. 6, 2026.
Blanche Griffin Aldridge, born on Dec 10, 1934 peacefully passed away March 4, 2026. She was the oldest daughter of Norman Griffin and Flora Altman Griffin Aldridge Smith. Her father died at the age of four and she was raised by her mother and stepfather. She was the sole survivor of eight siblings. Blanche's earliest years were spent near the Okefenokee swamp in the Braganza area and she told stories of her school bus having to wait for alligators to cross the road. Later in her childhood, she and her parents and siblings moved to what became the family farm on Central Avenue in Brantley County, GA.

She married the love of her life, Elmer Aldridge, on April 7, 1952. Their courtship began with him serenading her with his guitar. As she told it, her mother fell in love with Elmer before she did, but he soon won her over as well. Their union lasted an extraordinary 72 years filled with love, laughter and many accomplishments.

Blanche is survived by her daughter, Donna Aldridge of Atlanta; her son, Emuel Aldridge (Juana Gnecco) of Athens; and her granddaughters, who brought her a great deal of joy, Gina Titelman of Atlanta and Ana Aldridge of Atlanta.

Blanche married Elmer at age 17 while still in high school and they quickly started a family. She was highly intelligent with limitless energy, and excelled in every endeavor she undertook. In addition to being a wonderful cook, she loved sewing and became an exceptionally skilled seamstress who made clothing for herself and others, including several wedding dresses and even a leisure suit for her teenage son! Blanche also excelled at quilting, crocheting, and knitting. In addition to domestic activities, she worked in real estate where she ultimately became a broker. She also co-owned and operated the Red Top Trailer Park and various rental properties in Brantley County.

Blanche prided herself on her beautiful, welcoming home and hosted many large family gatherings. No one ever left hungry and the home-made rolls and blueberry muffins quickly disappeared from the healthy spread that she presented. She had a green thumb and in addition to beautiful landscaping around her home and too many houseplants to count, she maintained a large fruit and vegetable garden with her late husband Elmer.

Blanche had a fierce love of her family, was loyal and great in a crisis. She was creative and loved to help other people, whether through sewing, planning a wedding, taking care of children, or helping family members figure out how to purchase and afford a new home. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and many members of the community.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Sat March 14, 2026 at Music Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends immediately after the service at the funeral home.

Blanche was there when I was born, and all throughout my life. Such fun memories of her. She treated us so well. Was always up for a drop in visit if we were in town. I am sure Elmer was waiting for her when she crossed over. My parents and them are reunited again. Love to Donna and Emuel and the grands.
