I am sorry to hear of your loss. Bob Ackles was one of the finest guy's I have ever known. He treated everyone with respect. In the dog eat dog world of the NFL it was nice to see someone that truly had compassion for his fellow man and Bob did.

"Mr. BC Lion" is about the best way to sum up Bob Ackles. I've followed the team with all their highs and lows since 1977. With the passing of Bob, not only does it leave a big hole to fill within the team, but the city of Vancouver has lost one of the greats.
He had a keen eye for everything to do with football and the knack to find just the "right fit" for the team. His return to the CFL in 2002 saved the team from sinking into oblivion. For this and so many other contributions, we thank you, Bob.
My condolences to the family. The province of BC shares in your loss.

I.ve been a football nut for 67 years, player and fan, but I've never seen such affection for a guy that runs a football club. Proof that good guys can win. I think his most important legacy will be as a mentor to us all on how to treat everyone with honesty and respect.

Dear Kay, Scott, Steven and family's my deepest condolences for your huge loss. Bobby was such a great guy, and always looked you in the eye and made you feel that you were important and respected. He was quick to laugh and had such a zest for life. His spirit will remain for all those that loved him, which are many. A sad time, but a joyous life lead, full of wonderful memories, from a loving husband, father and grandpa. Hugs, cousin Ann.

Bob, I got to meet you on a few occasions but in such a different way. We never talked sports but we both always discussed our love of music. You would indulge me in the types of jazz and old time swing that you enjoyed. I remember the day you came in and you had just watched "De Lovely" in the theaters and kept on going on about how great the music was, you even made me listen to the cd. Because of you, I own the soundtrack and I listened to it all day Monday in your memory.
I feel honoured to have met you, you were truly a kind gentleman.
My thoughts go out to the family at this time, especially to the loving wife, Mrs. Ackles.

Our hearts go out to Bobs family and we want them to know that he will be miss ....but never forgotten. We send our love and prayers.

To the Ackles Family, What a Class Act! It was always a pleasure to be around Bob in the Writers Press Box at Texas Stadium ( during the Dallas Cowboy Years). When he talked to you, he made you feel like you were the most important person in his busy world. I saw a very kind man who could move mountains. He brought out the best in people & made them feel good about themselves. He loved you all (his family) & always lite up when talking about you. I know you will miss him terribly. He will be in my heart & be remembered as a great man, I had the honor to know. Thanks Bob, you will always be the Best of the Best!

To the Ackles Family:
How can one say what one wants about a man who did so much for his community, province and profession? His presence will be felt forever. Every time two football teams line up against each other, he will be with us.
It is a debt that can never be paid. Our gratitude to you who knew him best for sharing him as much as you did over all the years. Your gift of him to us is a generous as the gifts that he gave us.
Thank you in perpetuity.
Strength to you all in this difficult time.

Standing on the dock on a very windy day in Silva Bay on Gabriola Island our group watched as the skipper of Water Buoy pulled alongside the designated slip and flawlessly backed her in. The deck hand muttered something about "she's the captain and I'm just the water boy. It was a pleasure to have met you. Thinking of you both and your family.

Condolences go to the Ackles family in this trying time. Although I've never met the man, I know for a fact that Bobby was a class act all the way. His passion for the CFL was immeasurable. He put so much of his heart and soul into this league to get it where it is today. It's sad that his passing comes at a critical time when the CFL needs someone like him to stand up to the NFL juggernaut. I can see no greater tribute to the man than to take up the cause that he's fought for - creating a stronger-than-ever CFL for generations to come. His legacy must endure. Goodbye, Bobby - you'll be dearly missed.

To the family members of Bob Ackles, I would like to express my condolences.
I had my first set of season tickets when I was 6. I am now into my 27 year of season tickets. Football has always been a family event for myself. I have sat with my parents, brothers and aunt for a very long time and now enjoy the games with my fiance.
This game means a lot to me and my family, and I would like to thank Bob Ackles for all his contibutions to something I care so much about.

To the Ackles family and the BC Lions family. We are so very sorry for your (and our) loss.
Mr. Ackles was, by all accounts, a wonderful human being and the type of person we should all strive to be. My family has been Lions fans for a long time so we've been there for both the ups and downs. We like the ups a whole lot better and we have Mr. Ackles to thank for that. I hope we see his name hanging in the dome with the rest of the hall of famers.
Rest in peace Bob.

I had met Bob a few times (most recently at this year's Training Camp), and every time, no matter what he was doing, he always had a smile and a few minutes for a fan. Always. This is one of my treasured pictures from Fanfest 2006. He was in a hurry to be somewhere else, but when I asked him if I could please get a picture, he stopped and posed with me. There is an empty place at the Lions family table now. Godspeed, Bob.

Deepest sympathy to Bobby's wife Kay, to their sons, their grandchildren, extended family and friends. Take comfort in knowing that you all played a part in creating Bobby's great legacy. To other CFL fans, we all have the great honour of carrying the torch of Bobby's passion for the league. Although we would rather have him with us, I can't help but think that he'll be whispering softly in our ears to guide us in our efforts to preserve Canadian football the way he knew and loved it.

To the Ackles Family my deepest sympathy, your loss is the greatest. To the CFL you have lost your best and biggest champion. To the BC Lions you have lost a big piece of your soul. To the province of BC you have lost one of your best citizens. But to the fans we have lost a friend, a champion, and one of our own.
To the man I never met but felt he knew, thank you for all you did. Your loss from football is great but the greatest loss is the shining light of the man you were.

I met Bob once, at the PNE of all places. I asked to see the Grey Cup ring he was wearing and he was more than happy to show it off. He talked to me like we were long time friends, took all the time to just chat. It didn't matter that we didn't know each other, he was FIRST CLASS all the way.

Heartfelt condolences to the Ackles family... Mr. Ackles was one hell of a guy in all respects. Though I did not have the privilege to meet him except in passing at a football game, his passion and work ethic have benefitted all who are football fans in North America. I read his book and was simply amazed at the full life he led, and admire Bob & Kay for their 48 years together. Football fans, especially CFL fans, owe Bob a huge amount of gratitude - he will be sorely missed, he was and always will be an icon.
As the ancient Greeks asked when a man died, "Did he have passion?"... Yes, he most certainly did. Rest in Peace Mr. Ackles.

The passing of Mr. Ackles represents a tremendous loss for everyone close to him.
I only ever met him in person once, last year, at a signing for his book, The Water Boy. He was so gregarious in conversation with him, I swear the man couldn't have been more cordial.
My condolences to his family, friends, everyone in the Lions organisation and the rest of his colleagues in the football fraternity. A Hall of Fame CFL Builder, and a Hall of Fame human being.

Mr. Ackles is the BC Lions. He always will be the BC Lions. His devotion to the team will never be forgotten. He saved football in BC and perhaps saved the CFL in the process.
I met him on several occasions. Bobby always had time for the fan. He was a special person, who left us too soon.
My thoughts and prayers to his family. Bobby will be always in my thoughts, every time I walk into what should now be called Bobby Ackles Stadium.

Bobby Ackles was a very special man. He gave his all to his family, his community, and his beloved B.C. Lions.
I met Bobby many years ago when the BC Lions trained in Courtenay, B.C. My father, (the late Bill Moore) was a dear friend. He always kept in touch with his many friends in Courtenay, and was respected and admired by all who knew him. He cared deeply about his players, his Staff and his fans.
As Mayor of Courtenay, I offer my deepest sympathies to Kay and family, as well as the B.C. Lions family, who I know are suffering a great loss today.

This is a very very sad day for the Ackles family, the BC Lions, the CFL, and sports fans in Vancouver.
