Obituary of Bob Salter
March 24, 1955- October 20, 2023
Lifelong Resident of Santa Cruz
Family and friends are mourning the loss of beloved uncle and trusted friend, Bob Salter, who passed away at his Santa Cruz home with his loving family at his bedside. Bob fought hard from a short illness, and true to form, never lost sight of what was important; his family, friends, and his unique sense of humor.
Bob was born in Santa Cruz to Frederick Salter and Fern Rianda Salter, he attended Delaveaga, B40, and Harbor High School. His father taught Bob the joy of fishing and love of the Sea. He grew up surfing and fishing with his brother Gary. His former boat was the Francis Jolene in the Santa Cruz Harbor. He fished for many seasons in Alaska and would visit family in Canada along the way. Bob had a lifelong career of commercial fishing and most recently fished out of Santa Cruz Harbor with Rick Ryan and his niece Bonnie Salter.
Bob was known to light up the room with joy and laughter the moment he entered. His family will cherish the memories of Bob riding his Harley Davidson through all parts of the county, and the many camping trips taken along with his family to Tulloch Lake, Thousand Trails, and Big Sur. He was always up for an adventure with many trips to Hawaii throughout his life, hunting in Oregon, and in his younger years riding horses at his grandmas ranch. Bob always had a dog by his side and he loved all of his canine companions like family.
He is survived by: April Dinatale, Elizabeth Salter, Bonnie Salter, Joe Mason (Tara) and Blake Mason (Megan), Amanda, and companion Hannah. Grand nieces and nephews: Kelly and Matthew Niven; Carson, Kyland, Aidan and Ruby Krietz; Chloe, Ava, Brodie, and Dylan Mason.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion Cindy Mason; brother, Gary Salter; his nephew, Donald Salter and his niece, Araya Nelson.
A memorial ceremony will take place November 19th 2023-beginning at 11:30am with reception to follow until 3 p.m. at Harvey West Clubhouse.
The family would like to thank Safe at Home Senior Care that helped Uncle Bob in his final days.
A kind act of charity can be made in his memory to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.
