Mooreville—Bobby Clyde Edwards passed away Monday March 17, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center at the age of 88. He was born in Lee County on August 22, 1936, the son of Joseph Orville and Ollie Hunt Edwards. Not long after his high school graduation, Bobby began a 20-year career with the United States Navy, proudly serving his country and retiring at the rank of Senior Chief. Bobby’s service included stations in Vietnam, The Philippines, Australia, and finally NROTC at the University of Mississippi. He served aboard the USS Yellowstone and the USS Joseph Strauss. The skills and discipline he learned in the Navy translated well to civilian life after his retirement. After returning to a less structured life in Mooreville, Bobby’s strong work ethic provided him with attributes necessary for success as a mail carrier and clerk for the US Post Office in Amory and also as a rancher of Texas longhorn cattle at his Rafter E. Ranch. On December 28, 1979, he married Rita Holder Edwards, and they enjoyed 45 years together. When Bobby took some well-deserved leisure time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He adored his family who will miss him greatly.
He leaves behind his wife, Rita Holder Edwards of Mooreville; children, James Edwards (Tanya) of Mooreville and Bobbie Sue White (Russell) of Mukileo, Washington; step-children, Amy Aven (Mark) of Mooreville and Lisa Glidewell of Guntown; daughters, Vivian Whisenant (Donald) of Roy, Washington, Laura Lee Collins of Arizona, and Melody Story of Arizona; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Edith Edwards of New Mexico; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Jackie Bracken; three brothers, Joseph P. Edwards, Lonnie Hoyle Edwards, and Lawrence Edwards; and a sister, Carolyn Edwards Kingsley.
