Bobby Suddreth

1934 - 2024

Bobby Devaughn Suddreth (Lenoir), age 89, a pillar of love and strength in both his family and community, peacefully departed from this world on March 04, 2024, at Amorem Hospice in Valdese. He was born on August 29, 1934, in Caldwell County, a son to the late D.D. Suddreth and Stella Suddreth. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Janet Branch.
Throughout his life, Bobby unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, Gwen Suddreth, was a testament to enduring love, having shared 70 beautiful years together. His heart was a haven of boundless affection, nurturing not only his cherished wife but also his entire family, friends, church family, and community.
Bobby was an adoring father to his sons, Mike Suddreth and Marc Suddreth, and a loving father-in-law to Deena. His grandchildren, Laura Spatz, Holly Vance, Kristin Harrison, Bradley Suddreth, and Lindsey Suddreth, were the apple of his eye. His five great-grandchildren brought joy and laughter into his life.
A man of deep connections, Bobby cherished his sisters, Joanne Cresson, Nancy Moore, and Gail Dudley (Husband: Jim), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His warmth and kindness radiated in every interaction, leaving a permanent mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Bobby was a 1952 graduate of Lenoir High School and a graduate of Coyne Technical Institute in Chicago, Illinois.
His devotion to the Lord was unwavering, embodying the teachings of the Bible in every aspect of his life. Embracing Jesus Christ as his savior, he eagerly anticipated the joy of being in Heaven with the Lord. A dedicated member of College Avenue Baptist Church throughout his life, he served in various capacities including as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, usher, and in any other role the church needed.
Bobby's enthusiasm for aviation went beyond mere interest; as an instrument-rated private pilot and a lifetime member of the Lenoir Aviation Club, he took to the skies with the same passion he dedicated to his family and community. His love for his country was evident in his service in the National Guard as a sergeant for many years.
In his professional life, Bobby was a respected figure in the furniture industry, serving as the Past-President of the Southern Home Furnishings Association (NC, SC, VA, TN, FL) and receiving the distinguished John Willis Jr Award of Merit for leadership and service. As the owner of D.D. Suddreth Furniture, a cherished family legacy spanning over seven decades, Bob found solace and fulfillment in serving his customers with unparalleled dedication and care.
In every corner of his life, Bobby Suddreth radiated love, compassion, and grace. His legacy of kindness will forever illuminate our paths, guiding us through life's twists and turns with unwavering strength and courage. Though he may have bid farewell to this earthly realm, his love will continue to echo in the chambers of our hearts, a gentle reminder of the profound impact of a life lived with love.
Rest in eternal peace, dearest Bobby. Your love will forever be our guiding light, shining brightly in the tapestry of our memories, weaving a legacy of love that transcends time itself. You will be deeply missed, but your love will forever live on, an eternal flame in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you.
The family would like donations to College Avenue Baptist Church, aiding their efforts to disseminate God's love and teachings, or to Amorem Hospice of Valdese, in appreciation for the exceptional care provided to Bobby during his final hours.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at College Avenue Baptist Church in Lenoir. The gathering to welcome friends will begin at 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
