Bonnie Jean Butler, a compassionate and dedicated registered nurse, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2025, at the age of 79, following a brief respiratory illness. Born on December 5, 1945, in Glen Cove, New York, she was a warm and caring soul whose legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched throughout her career.
After graduating from the Methodist Hospital of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, Bonnie devoted her life to caring for others, working both full time and part time in various medical settings including the cardiac ICU and emergency care units, as well as medical offices. Her professional integrity and commitment were matched only by her deep compassion for others, a quality that endeared her to colleagues and patients alike.
Bonnie's greatest pride lay in her family, whom she nurtured with unwavering love and dedication. She found immense satisfaction in seeing her loved ones gather together, cherishing the time spent with them. In her leisure time, Bonnie enjoyed various hobbies which often focused on connection with family and friends. She loved to travel to new destinations, especially those that showcased the beauty of nature. As time passed, she delighted in sharing meals with a long-standing dinner group and engaging in friendly competition during pinochle games. In recent years, she was very fond of attending pops concerts and other stage productions. Most recently, she developed a passion for building Lego sets of retro-themed objects, architectural models, floral designs, and an impressive large model of a sailing ship.
Bonnie is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years Martin Butler; her cherished children Steve Butler & Misty and Mike Butler & Melissa; her grandchildren Darci Saylor & Cody, Chelsea "Tobi" Sattler & Wade, Madison White & Dylan, Riley Holbrook, and Bryce Butler; as well as her great-grandchildren Emory White, Cade White, and Walter Sattler. Her legacy is carried on through these proud generations.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Vincent Ellis Sr. and Mary Ellis (née Anderson); her maternal grandparents, Luke and Martha Malieski (née Drywa); and her parents, Vincent Ellis Jr. and Regina Ellis (née Malieski).
Bonnie experienced great joy in serving and doing for others, even when it meant putting others needs before her wants. When asked for life advice, she would say "seek joy at every opportunity", and "always do the right thing".
Bonnie will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but also for her nurturing spirit, dedication to family, and the warmth she shared with those around her. Her greatest achievement, she would say, was her family, a testament to the love and joy she brought into their lives. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
