Bonnie Fields Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakes Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
Bonnie Beatrice Fields of Annville, Kentucky passed away peacefully at her home on January 27, 2026 at the age of 89. She was born April 9, 1936 in Sand Gap, Kentucky to the late Rosa Gabbard and to the late Steve Gabbard. Bonnie worked in Hamilton, Ohio at a glove factory as well as in Jackson County Kentucky at Hugh Taylor's Restaurant, at KIPP headstart program, and she spent more than 20 years at Kentucky Wood Craft. She also helped to maintain her family farm while raising her family.

Bonnie's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will tell you that she treated everyone fairly, and would make sure that if she gave something to one, she gave it to all of her "youngins" as she called them, right down to the last nickel. They would also say that no one could make a better pot of chicken and dumplings than her. Her kitchen table and living room has gathered all who have loved her for years as they listened to Bonnie's stories from the past about growing up in the hollers of southeastern Kentucky or as they laughed until bellies hurt at her quick, hilarious Bonnie Fields-isms as she was never afraid to hold back her opinions on anything. That table also saw Bonnie beat the socks off of everyone in many games of Rummy, something her grandchildren loved to play with her.

In her free time, Bonnie loved to garden. She never walked past a flower that she didn't admire its beauty, and she used to send everyone home with bags of "maters," "taters," and cucumbers that she had grown so that no one was hungry. If Bonnie was around, nothing was wasted as she learned from a very young age how to can food and how to make things last, something that was very important to her as she learned to survive and make ends meet from the time she was a little girl.

One of Bonnie's greatest talents was that she was very skilled at embroidery and quilting. Stitched with love, while relaxing in her rocking chair and faithfully tuning in for The Young and the Restless, those quilts have kept many warm and comforted for years, and the love they were made with will live on forever.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel Fields, two children, Ricky and Wildene Fields, a grandson, Matthew Fields, five sisters, Ruby Fields, Janice Sizemore, June, Joyce, and Jewell Gabbard, three brothers, Hubert, Herman, and Homer Gabbard, and a very close family member and friend, Clyde Fields.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Allene Cornelius of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, her son, Danny Fields (Darlene) of Annville, Kentucky, her granddaughter, Jama Vogt (Brian) of New Albany, Indiana, her grandson, Justin Cornelius (Melissa) of Brodhead, Kentucky, her grandson, Travis Fields of Berea, Kentucky, her great grandchildren, Andrew, Sam, and Hanna Cornelius of Brodhead, Kentucky, her sister Hallie Huskey of Hamilton, Ohio, as well as a host of family members and friends including some very close ones who were quick to check in or help her: Johnny Sizemore, Glenn Sizemore, Marsha Proffitt, Keith Saylor, Carl Hacker, Steve Gill, Naomi Eversole, Bub Ward, and Kenneth Hacker.

The family would also like to thank her dedicated caregivers, Lottie Harrison and Shelly Davis, for their consistent love and support. They treated her like their own families and showed such patience and compassion.

Funeral Services for Bonnie will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, February 5th with Bro. Carl Hacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Fields-Moore Cemetery.

A visitation will begin at 10 A.M. on Thursday at Lakes Funeral Home Chapel in McKee.
