Mrs. Bonnie Johnson, 75, of Coatsburg, IL, passed away at 4:15 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Born on February 17, 1950, in Quincy, IL, Bonnie was the daughter of Marlyn Dale and Charlotte "Geri" Bowman Husemann. She graduated from Camp Point Central High School in 1968. On June 21, 1969, she married William R. “Bill” Johnson at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, IL. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2025.

In 1972, Bonnie earned her LPN from the Quincy School of Practical Nursing and soon after began her nursing career at North Adams Nursing Home in Mendon, IL. In 1979, she joined Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, where she continued her calling until her retirement in 2012. Even after retiring, Bonnie continued to be a caregiver for others in her community.

During the 1990s, in addition to her nursing career, Bonnie also served as an EMT for Adams County, IL—further demonstrating her deep commitment to caring for others in her community. She served on the Coatsburg town board for 40 years, working to support and strengthen the community she loved.

Her faith was the foundation of her life and a source of daily strength. As a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, Bonnie's devotion to her faith was reflected in her long-standing commitment to the church's mission, service, and fellowship.

More than anything, Bonnie loved her family. She enjoyed being a wife, mom, and grandma, and was always present for the people she loved. Her home was a place of warmth and comfort.

In her free time, Bonnie enjoyed gardening, sewing, and other creative projects. She also loved to travel and was proud to have visited all 50 states. She and her husband shared many memorable trips abroad, including destinations in Europe and the Pacific.

Surviving are her children: Anthony C. (Nelle) Johnson of Louisville, KY; Andrew C. (Yessica) Johnson of Coatsburg; and Angela C. Waterkotte of Coatsburg. She was a devoted grandmother to Alger F. (Haylie) Johnson of Peoria, IL; Alexia M. Johnson, Rebekkah B. Waterkotte, and Charlotte R. Waterkotte, all of Coatsburg; and Aaron C. Johnson and Aidan C. Johnson, both of Louisville, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, William R. Johnson Jr.; and her brother, Dennis Husemann.

Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg. A private family inurnment will be held at Graymount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, followed by the service and then a private family graveside committal at Graymount Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Central Adams Fire Protection District, or Graymount Cemetery.
