Send FlowersBonnie L. Lake, 85, Swayzee, passed away at 7:29 am on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Marion Health. She was born in Rochester, Indiana, on Saturday, December 9, 1939, to Leonard and Luella (Smith) Shriver. On January 23, 1959, she married Richard D. Lake, and he preceded her in death on November 5, 2008.
Bonnie was a devoted animal lover, birdwatcher, and passionate gardener. For many years, she co-owned Lake Country Gardens near Swayzee, Indiana, where she shared her love of plants with the community. Her favorite flowers were daylilies and hostas which she lovingly cultivated in the many gardens around her home. In recent years, Bonnie could often be found tending to those gardens or traveling across the United States with her special companion, Whitefeather. She was an active member of the Grant County Master Gardeners, the MVOTC, and Miles of Smiles. Bonnie was also a proud retiree from Delco Electronics.
Survivors include her sons, Brian (Lauren) Lake of Gas City, Glen (Michele) Lake of Marion, George (Sandy) Lake of Swayzee; grandchildren, Jordan (Lauren) Lake, Macy (Tim) Lake, Jarrod Hisey; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Landon, and Allison; sister, Mona Pearl Ault; brother-in-law, Gordon (Barbara) Lake; nephews and nieces, Sam Shriver, Kathie Zeigler, Matthew Lake, Cathy Duffey; and sister-in-law, Alice Shriver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Lake; parents, Leonard and Luella Shriver; and brother, Glen Shriver.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Bonnie's life will begin at 2:00 pm with Joe Shaver officiating. Burial will take place at a later time.
