WATERVILLE: Bonnie Leigh Winfield, Age 76, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones throughout the entirety of her long and courageous battle with illness. She now takes her place in the Kingdom of our Lord.
Bonnie was born on December 6,1946 to the late Shirley and Mary Jeanne (Ashburn) Blowers.
She married Robert Winfield on July 19,1969 and they remained happily married throughout all of her days. Family was the most important of things to Bonnie. She leaves behind four children: Debra S. Winfield-Morse, Rebecca J. (Jeremy Edwards), Cynthia L. Winfield (Ben Atwood) and James R. Winfield (Jennifer Litz). Her days were spent spoiling her beloved grandchildren Ashley, Ryan, Derek, Jeremy, Gwen, Lily and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Makenna.
Bonnie will forever be known as a very active and nurturing mother. She lived in Waterville and dedicated herself to service in the community of her hometown her entire life. She was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday School to children for several years. She was well known in her community for her voice as the operator for the Waterville Emergency Line for several years before the implementation of a 911 system. She also worked in the kitchen at Memorial Park Elementary School for many years. She later held positions at Harding Nursing home and the medical office in Waterville with Dr. Chabot. Bonnie had a voracious appetite for reading and she also enjoyed knitting and baking. She was known for her chocolate cake and her salads were served for years at the Waterville grocery store of the time. Bonnie radiated positivity and had many friendships throughout her years in Waterville, especially her girlfriends Donna and Sherry.
Bonnie Winfield was all the better for having been in Waterville, and Waterville was better for having had Bonnie. She loved, and was loved, by her family and her community. She is predeceased by her parents and a son-in-law, Lynn Morse.
Calling hours will be held Friday, May 5 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Home in Waterville, NY.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6 at 11am at the Waterville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Waterville Fire Department or the Waterville United Methodist Church.
