In Loving Memory of Boyce Harry "Jerry" Cherry
January 24, 1926 – June 25, 2025
Boyce Harry Cherry, lovingly known by many as Jerry, passed away peacefully from natural causes on June 25, 2025, at the age of 99. A devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jerry was born in Macon, Georgia, and spent his cherished life in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Vera Kathleen "Kitty" Cherry, who passed in 2007. Their union was a shining example of enduring love and family devotion, and together they created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and lasting memories.
A proud veteran of the United States Merchant Marine, Jerry carried with him a lifelong sense of honor and duty. He dedicated his professional life to home building throughout Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Fulton counties and was a respected member of the Georgia Home Builders Association. Notably, he built one of Atlanta's first "split-level" homes- an innovative milestone in local residential construction. His generosity extended far beyond his own success, as he mentored countless aspiring builders, helping many launch their own businesses.
A passionate golfer, Jerry was a cherished member of the Atlanta Athletic Club for over 50 years. He found immense joy on the course and in sharing that joy with family, especially his grandson Kevin, whom he taught to fish and to appreciate the peaceful beauty of nature.
Jerry is survived by his loving daughter, Marian Cherry; grandchild, Kevin Vermillion, great grandchildren, Camron Vermillion, and Emily Vermillion; nieces Lisa Buffington and Cheri Blevins; nephew Wyman Oxner and his wife, Patricia, nieces Suzanne Stello and her husband Rick, and Vicky Oxner, great niece Cherry Dudney and husband Andy, great great nephews Will Oxner and John Blake Oxner. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for his steady kindness, quiet wisdom, and boundless love for family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce Harry Cherry Sr. and Susie Cherry; his wife, Vera "Kitty" Cherry; and his son, Phillip Cherry, sisters Ruthy Oxner, Ginger Bagwell, and brother Johnny Lee Barker.
A funeral service celebrating Jerry's life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will take place prior to the service, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, as friends and family gather in remembrance.
Jerry will be laid to rest at Peachtree Memorial Park, beside his beloved Kitty. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him-a lasting tribute to a life lived with purpose, humility, and love.
