Boyd Salyers, 85, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, with his daughters Angie Eury and Katie Salyers, and his special niece, Sheila Billman at his side, at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.
Boyd was born November 30, 1938, in Ohio to the late Robert Salyer and the late Laura Jane Barnett.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Carol Barnett (October 1979); second wife, Charlene Beam (January 2022); his step-father, Alvin Robinson; brothers, William D. Salyers, Calvin J. Robinson, Hoyie Robinson, Alvin (Pete) Robinson, Jr., Mikel H. Robinson, Hobert C. Robinson, and Tim Robinson; sisters, Shirley Robinson, Marilyn (Tank) Robinson, Velma D. Robinson, Molly Lou Robinson, Betty Trusty; and great-granddaughters, Evalynn, Emerie and Ella Bergstrom.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, February 5, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Jon Aney. The burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle at a later date.
Boyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Boyd had dozens of nieces and nephews who adored him, and he enjoyed spending any moment he could with them. He was a dedicated student of the Bible and knew Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a great cook and enjoyed sharing his cooking skills with his children. Boyd was an antiques dealer and traveled frequently between North Carolina and Ohio to attend numerous flea markets. Boyd was an avid reader of history and westerns. He was a friend to the Amish communities of Coshocton and Holmes counties in Ohio, whom he transported to horse sales and family visits as far as Wisconsin. He loved traveling, driving as far as Alaska with a missionary friend.
Survivors include sister, Glenda F. (Edwin) Payett; sons, Boyd C. (Ruth) Salyers of Dover OH, and Thomas G. (Connie) Salyers of Massillon OH; daughters, Angela J. Eury and Karole K. Byerley, both of Albemarle, Nichole R. Gardner of Coshocton OH and Sheila Chapman of OH; and bonus son (nephew) Timothy C. Robinson of Wooster, OH. Surviving grandchildren include Joshua Salyers, Loudon Salyers, and Sarah (Nathan) Breinig of AZ; Natalie Book of New Bern, NC, Nicholas M. Eury and David A. (Stacy) Salyers of Albemarle; Daniel (Jessica) Aney of TX; Lauren (Jacob) Bergstrom, Gray Moody, Jordan Gardner, and Jaslyn Gardner, Matthew Chapman, and Daniel Chapman, all of OH. Surviving great-grandchildren include Shay, Samson, Silas, and Ian Salyers of AZ; Chloe and Aiden Book of NC; Kiersten Whistler, and Eli and Owen Bergstrom, of OH; Jensen Hartsell, Kalyd Al Nasir, Kasen Eury, Marleigh Turner, Charlotte Salyers and Olivia Salyers, all of Albemarle; Berlin Aney of Blowing Rock, NC, McKensie Schiltz of Greensboro, NC, Kayli Wallace and Melaya Long of Denton, TX. Surviving great-great-grandchildren include Ava Schlitz and Summer Schlitz of Greensboro, NC, and Kylo James and Levi James of Denton, TX.
Memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice of Stanly County, and any donations to the funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated by the family.
