Mr. Breck Howard Smith, 64, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his residence in Charlotte.
Mr. Smith was born September 12, 1958 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Harry Lee Smith, Jr. and the late Geraldine Shipman Smith.
He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Harry Lee Smith, Sr., Lucille Stubbs Smith, Henry Craven Shipman, and Daisy Deaton Shipman.
Breck grew up in Wilmington, NC and graduated from Hoggard High School in 1976. He attended Appalachian State University and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1981. He worked in finance in local government for several North Carolina cities during his 31-year career. Breck always enjoyed spending time in the water – whether the ocean or a pool. He also enjoyed hiking and camping in the NC mountains. Breck was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing books with friends and family. He also loved gardening and always looked forward to fresh tomatoes from his daughter’s garden. Breck loved being a father and spending time with his children. He will be greatly missed.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg in Harrisburg. The service will be officiated by Rev. Justin Nash.
Survivors include daughter, Jessica (Chad) Brewer of Harrisburg, NC, son, Fielding L. Smith of Indian Trail, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Coastal Land Trust ( http://www.coastallandtrust.org ) or Appalachian State University Scholarship Fund ( http://www.give.appstate.edu ).
