Brenda Sue Gilbert Johnson, passed away on May 23, 2023, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS. She was 62 years old.
Brenda's warmth and generosity touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her loved ones will gather to remember her at Cleveland Funeral Home where visitation will be held on May 26, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a celebration of life service at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Clarence Edwards.
Born on July 16, 1960 in Cleveland, MS to A.B. Gilbert and Edna Dunn Gilbert, Brenda graduated from Rosedale High School in 1980. After spending some time as a homemaker, Brenda obtained her CNA Certificate and worked in various positions including as a clerk at Cracker Barrel BBQ in Brookhaven and later at Greenhurst Nursing Home in Charleston, AR for two years. She faced retirement after laboring with dedication for many years and relocated back to Cleveland in 2013.
Brenda had many hobbies that she enjoyed throughout her life, among those were thrift shopping where she found great joy in discovering hidden gems, sharing recipes where she honed her culinary skills by creating delicious meals that brought people together; painting where she expressed her creativity and indulging herself with arts and crafts.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, A.B. Gilbert, and Edna Dunn Gilbert; Son, Bobby Williams, III; Siblings, Roy Gilbert, Jimmy Lewis Gilbert, Albert Lee Gilbert, Jeanette Dakin, and Nancy Robinson.
Brenda's love for family was evident to everyone who knew her best. A devoted mother and grandmother affectionately known as Big Mama to those closest to her heart. Her legacy continues through Daughter, Rosa Williams (Timmy) Thornton of Brookhaven, MS; Son, Christopher Williams of Chandler TX; five grandchildren Kylie Williams, Madison Chandler, Hudson Williams, Hayden Williams and Kolbi Rose Thornton; sisters Linda (John) Bowen of Skene, MS, Peggy (Kim) Showers of Skene, MS, Mary Lee (Jimmy) McElroy of Hamilton, MS and Becky (Johnny) Roberson of Cleveland, MS. She also leaves behind a special niece, Brenda Fay Dial of Cleveland, MS and her companion Charles Dykes of Brookhaven, MS.Cleveland Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
