Brenda McDonald Mauney passed away November 24, 2025 surrounded by her family. Brenda was born April 25, 1945 at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital to the late Buford O. McDonald, Sr. and Gertha L. McDonald. A Fayetteville resident for the majority of her life, Brenda operated a small day care center at one time and enjoyed gardening, cake decorating, and flower arranging. Brenda possessed a skilled and exacting eye for beauty and design which she passed along to her daughters.

Brenda is survived by her children: Yvonne M. Counts, and husband Tom, of Fayetteville; Dana F. Player, and husband Lonnie, of Fayetteville; and Gary L. Mauney, Jr., and wife Michelle, of Goldsboro; her grandchildren: Chase Counts; Alexandria Justice, and husband Adam; Katie Mauney; and Brent Mauney; as well as three great-grandchildren. Brenda is also survived by her brothers: Buford O. McDonald, Jr., and wife Erna, and Alton McDonald, and wife LaVon.

The family wishes to thank Brenda's caregivers, Jamie and Lydia, as well as the staff at Valley Hospice House for their skilled and attentive care to Brenda during her final days.

A private interment service will be held on December 1, 2025 at Lafayette Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to the Cape Fear Botanical Garden or to Valley Hospice House.
