Brenda McCart, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and gifted local artist, passed peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born and raised in
Shreveport, Louisiana, Brenda lived a life filled with color, creativity, music, and deep love for those around her.
A celebrated and award-winning local artist, Brenda shared her talents generously, traveling the world to paint, teach, and inspire others. Her creativity extended far beyond the canvas-she was a songwriter, a musician who could play several instruments, and an author of several unpublished books. Brenda's love for nature led her to become a Master Gardener in Caddo Parish, where she found joy in tending to the earth and helping others learn to do the same. Many times, she was able to blend her Master Gardening with the Shreveport Art world.
Brenda was also deeply devoted to service. She volunteered for many years at the Sunday School Class at
Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, bringing comfort, compassion, and joy to countless young lives. Her faith, gentleness, and warmth were the quiet gifts she offered the world.
Above all, Brenda loved her family. She was the proud mother of two and the joyful grandmother of four-each of whom carries her creativity, her humor, and her love forward.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, David McCart; her children, Alana McCart Zemaitaitis of Minden, LA, and her children Jonah and Preston; and David McCart, Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, and his wife Holly, and their children Vivienne and Thomas. And son-in-law Matthew Zemaitaitis.
She is also survived by her siblings Ed Grounds, of Tyler, TX; Lora Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, Virginia Disotell of Haughton, LA and Debbie Davis of Saginaw, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lurain Grounds, both of
Shreveport, LA.
Visitation will be held at Auld's Funeral Home in Shreveport on Sunday, November 9, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Graveside services will follow on Monday, November 10, at 11:30 AM.
The family would like to offer their deepest thanks to her nurse, Danielle, and the staff of The Columns Memory Care in Bossier City for their compassion and gentle care. The family additionally extends heartfelt appreciation to The Bridge Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Center for the kindness and support shown to Brenda and her loved ones throughout her journey.
A special expression of gratitude is also extended to Virginia and Robert Disotell, whose support and love have been a blessing beyond measure
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Brenda's honor to
Shriners Hospitals for Children or
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, causes that held a special place in her heart. You may also choose to honor her by planting something living and beautiful, as a tribute to the joy she found in growing and nurturing life.
Brenda's legacy lives on through her art, her music, her gardens, her stories, and the love she poured into everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
