Brenda Sharp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society - Greater Kansas City, Missouri - Rayt on Mar. 16, 2026.
Brenda Sharp, 97, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

Brenda was born on July 11, 1928, in Nottingham, England, where she was raised. During World War II, she studied clothing design at Nottingham College of Art before later switching to business school and beginning a career as a legal secretary.

She married William King in England and later moved with him to Western Kansas, where she devoted herself to raising their family. Brenda was a loving and active mother who participated fully in her children's lives, serving as both a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother.

Brenda enjoyed an active life filled with many interests. She loved swimming, playing tennis, bridge, and gardening. Holidays were often spent in Western Kansas with the King family, a tradition she cherished.

She married H.D. Sharp in 1970 and was married until his death in 2015. In 1985, Brenda became a member of the Daughters of the British Empire in Kansas, where she participated in fundraising events such as the annual English Tea. She was also a member of the Senior Arts Council from 2007 to 2025 and the Greater Kansas City Art Association.

Art was one of Brenda's greatest passions. She began painting in oils before discovering her love for watercolors. After taking her first watercolor class in 1990, she became more dedicated to her art around 2000 and began exhibiting her work. She studied painting through K-State Extension, Johnson County Community College, and with several local artists, including Jim Ryan and Claudette Danbury.

Brenda was a longtime member of Valley View Methodist Church, joining in 1965. She volunteered on the church's wedding committee and also gave her time volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital.

In 2016 she moved to Town Village of Leawood and met Wes Lloyd who was also a widower. They enjoyed each other's company, traveling, dining, walks and just being together.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William R. King and Harry D. Sharp; her son, Vincent MacGregor King; and her daughter, Rebecca Marie King.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Angela (Robert) Tunison; her sister, Sylvia MacGregor; her grandsons, Michael (Senta) Vincent Kraft and Lawrence (Emily) Joseph Kraft Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Clover, Hazel, Olive, and Julian.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026, at Town Village of Leawood in Leawood, Kansas, from 2:00pm-4:00pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or ACG Hospice.
