Brenda Smith Obituary

Brenda McClendon Smith, 85, of Greenwood, widow of Tedd Ronald Smith passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at The Residences at Greenwood.

Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow P. "Woody" McClendon and Nellie Blackwell McClendon. Brenda retired from Greenwood High School, where she was not only a diligent employee but also a passionate supporter of the Greenwood Eagles. She had a special love for gardening and flowers and truly had a green thumb, transforming her home and yard into a beautiful oasis that brought joy to everyone around her. An avid reader and talented seamstress, Brenda enjoyed making clothing, quilts, and blankets for her family and friends, showcasing her creativity and deep affection for those she loved. She shared joyous moments square dancing with her husband, a cherished pastime that brought them both great happiness. Together, they traveled extensively during his service as a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer from 1956 to 1978, embracing life's adventures as partners. She was a member of Harris Baptist Church and cherished spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband Tedd, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny McClendon, brother-in-law Greg Jones; and nephew, Davis McClendon.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Duff (Ricky); sisters, Debbie Miller (Tommy) and Anne Jones; brother, James McClendon (Carie); granddaughters, Amanda Stone (Nate) and Heather Simmons (Josh); great grandchildren, Abryanna Brown, Reagan Simmons, Amelia Simmons and Lucas Simmons; step great grandchildren, Jase Stone and Savannah Stone; sister-in-law, Pam McClendon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sadie and Clyde Baldwin; and numerous nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Frank Thomas officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jay McClendon, Jason McClendon, Jamie McClendon, Corbett Miller, Scott Shirley and Mike Baldwin.

Memorials may be made to Harris Baptist Church, 300 Center Street, Greenwood, SC 29649.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Residences of Greenwood and Agape Hospice for their loving care.
