Brent, known as Mutt to many, Larson was born on April 7th, 1958, to George and Hazel (McKee) Larson. He passed away at his home in Elk Mountain, Wyoming on February 7th, 2026.
Brent lived his life in Elk Mountain, attending school in Elk Mountain and in Hanna. He graduated in May of 1976 from HEM High School. Brent went to work for Arch Coal in Hanna, shortly after graduation, in June of 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy, on August 28th 1981. They welcomed two children, Niles and Amanda. Brent worked on and off for the coal mine in Hanna for many years. He eventually transferred to Arch Coal’s Black Thunder Coal Mine in Wright, Wyoming and spent much of his work years commuting between Elk Mountain and Wright. He worked for Black Thunder for 23 years, retiring in May of 2020.
In addition to mining, Brent enjoyed his time ranching. Brent spent his years of retirement helping his son Niles on the ranch. The only thing he loved more than the ranch was his family. He was a very proud Papa to his grandchildren. He would brag on them every chance he got. Brent enjoyed taking the grandkids and dog for rides in his newly acquired side by side (he called it is buggy).
His family tried to teach him technology to broaden his past times, but he never truly got it. He learned enough to watch cattle and bull sales on his tablet and everything YouTube on his tv, especially cooking shows and politics.
Brent is survived by his wife Cindy (Hamby) Larson, his son Niles (Kaitlyn) Larson, his daughter Amanda (Jeremiah) Darr, and his grandchildren Kinsley, Grayson, and Zane Larson and McKartee, McKrae, and McKendree Darr. He is also survived by his brothers Jeff (Shelly) Larson, Scott Larson, Todd (Jenelle) Larson, his sister Jennifer Eller, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Hazel Larson, his mother-in-law Marcia Hamby, and his nephews Derek Larson and Trevor Larson.
A memorial service will be held at the community center in Elk Mountain on February 20th at noon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bow River FFA Chapter, PO Box 810, Hanna, WY 82327.
