Brenton Lake "Speedie" Torrence

1946 - 2023

Isaiah 41:10

Mr. Brenton Lake Torrence, 77, of Statesville, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Gordon Hospice House.
Brenton was born on March 8, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Lake Torrence and Mary Helen Stinson. He attended Morningside High School.
On April 6, 1974, he married Nellie Bridges Torrence, who survives. Brenton worked at and retired from Bartlett Milling and previously for the Lenoir Housing Authority and Ebony Funeral Home. He considered St. John Baptist Church his church home.
Some of Brenton's hobbies were sports of various types; football, basketball, baseball, and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and helping people. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Brenton Lake Torrence Jr. and Brenton Bristol; two grandsons, Jonathan Tyrone Bridges and Chad Tyrone Kincaid Jr; a brother, Gerald Warren; and Brenton Lake Torrence "Jack".
Those left to cherish Brenton's precious memories include, his wife, Nellie Bridges Torrence; six children, Lafreida Ann Torrence of Richmond, VA, Joy Diggs (Cedrico) of Copperas Cove, Texas, Talisha Zinoblie (Jess) of Gastonia, NC, Brenita Bridges Kincaid of Statesville, NC, Mary Helen Torrence of Statesville, NC, and Brenton Christopher Torrence (Nikki) of Troutman, NC; uncle, Flake Huggins; Odessa Maclain; and a host of nieces, and nephews, great grandchildren, family, and friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at St. John Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be held form 12:00 -12:30 p.m. at the church. Reverend Burrell Brooks will be officiating the service.
