Brian Keith Bates passed away on May 15, 2024. Born in Maryland on November 9, 1958 to the late Kenneth and Carol Bates, he was the beloved husband of Kimberly Bates and a loving father to their five children, Amanda, Erin, Sara, Will, and Kait. Brian's family was his pride and joy, and he adored his seven grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his loving cousins and preceded in death by his late brother, Kenny.

Brian enjoyed simple pleasures like spending time with his wife and their shared love for their cats, Friday date nights at Five Guys and scary movies, and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens from his club seat PSLs. Before settling down, he was an avid traveler all over the country, but in recent years Brian cherished the annual tradition of vacationing with Kim in Ocean City each August. The ION Channel was his favorite and he also loved playing the lottery. He would always tell Kim, "Alright hun, I love you, I'll be back. I'm going to get my numbers." Being a part of the Creekside Community Church provided him great joy.

Brian committed his professional life to protecting and serving his community as a Police Officer. He began in Baltimore City from 1980-1986 before becoming a detective. He was a detective for Montgomery County, MD National Park Police until he retired in 2004.

A public viewing will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Road, on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 3:00- 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, May 20, 2024 beginning at noon. A Graveside Service to commemorate Brian's life will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 7225 Eastern Avenue, immediately following the service.

Brian will be remembered for his kind heart, dedication to his family and community, and his unwavering love for those he held dear. He was a beacon of light to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Brian's name to the Esophageal Cancer Action Network.
