Brian John Doherty

Brian Doherty, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Silver Spring, MD on Sunday, May 19, 2024. He was born in Washington, DC on September 29, 1945, to Joan (Stanton) and Jack Doherty.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Julianne, son Brian Anthony (Sharron), daughter Mary Catherine, and two truly lovely granddaughters, Celia and Anabella.
Brian was the eldest of 13 children, a fact he loved to share with anyone and everyone. As such, he is also survived by siblings Mary Beal (Paul, deceased), Kevin (Bonnie), Mark, Matthew (Amy), Julia Knowles (Cory), Steve (Stacie), Patrick, Katie Cahill (Danny), and Monica McIntire (Jon). His brothers Terry, Dave, and Pete predeceased Brian, as did friend and honorary brother Paul Beal.
He was employed in a variety of fields throughout his working years, including as an actor/stagehand in live theater in his early years, a bartender at various venues over the decades, and ultimately as a manager in the retail field. He also served in the U.S. National Guard from 1968-1971. He retired in 2007 at age 62 and enjoyed retirement and the leisure time it affords. He loved to write poetry and was an avid reader, and so knew just what to do with much of that leisure. Brian was a man of laughter and he shared his laughter with friends and family, always seeking to lighten a heart as he made his way through each day.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 70 University Blvd., Silver Spring, MD 20901.
