I taught Brian English Honors I his freshman year at Stanton College Preparatory School. By chance, I was just telling stories about students, and his name came up. I spun several stories about him and said, "I'm going to goggle him and find out what he's up to." Needless to say, this is totally not what I expected to find.

I remember Brian well. He was a tall, polite, well mannered young man who on occasion did not make the best decisions (like breaking his arm before school and not telling anyone about it until lunch or piercing his belly button with a safety pin and collecting paperclips to build a chain only to have someone step on the chain and rip out the piercing during last class change of the day). He was always laughing and smiling and cutting jokes, and he was very much loved by his classmates. He brought life and humor to my class, and for that I was grateful. Crew was a great activity for him as it gave him a chance to work out his considerable energy.

To his family, I am sincerely sorry for your loss. I had contact with him via Facebook once or twice over the years and am sorry we did not keep in closer touch. I will always cherish my memories of Brian.

Wishing all continued peace and strength,
Carlan Shreve
