Obituary for Brian Arthur Elsden, Sr.

Brian Arthur Elsden, Sr., 81, passed away on November 14, 2025, after a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, surrounded by his family.

Born to Francis and Ann (Baker) Elsden, Brian grew up on Kahler Ave. in Milton, MA, in a close-knit family where aunts, uncles, and grandparents lived nearby and gathered often. He graduated from Milton High School (1962), earned his B.A. from Northeastern University, and completed his J.D. at Suffolk University Law School while attending night classes.

Brian met the love of his life, Jerry (Marjorie Lunt), at Milton High. They married in 1966 and made their home on High Street in Hingham, where they completed many additions and renovations, raised their three children and hosted many cookouts and Christmas open houses.

Brian began his banking career at Shawmut Bank and soon joined Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development. He went on to serve as President of Melrose-Wakefield Bank and of Milford National Bank. He later parlayed his banking expertise into real estate development of condominiums and homes in the Blackstone Valley, a chapter of his career he took great pride in. In semi-retirement, he was manager at the Black Rock Country Club guard house, where he made life-long friends and played many rounds of golf with them.

Family adventures-especially skiing trips throughout New England-were a constant source of joy. Brian and Jerry cherished their winter home in Venice, Florida, where they loved the beach, dinner sunsets, golf, kayaking, and taking their beloved black Lab, Duchess, to the dog beach. Time spent in Sunapee, NH, at their daughter Debby's lake house brought him peace, good company, and a favorite spot on the sandy beach with the dogs by his side.

In recent years, Brian embraced life in what he fondly called "the wild West End of Scituate," enjoying the wildlife and quiet beauty of the gardens and woods around him.

Brian is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jerry; his children Brian A. Elsden Jr. of Scituate, Gregory F. Elsden (Michelle) of Framingham, and Deborah Elsden McCarthy (Charlie) of Hingham; and seven grandchildren-Amelia, Mallory, Kevin, Emmett, Meredith, Charlotte, and Lewis, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Evelyn Flaherty, Virginia Kelley, and Kevin Elsden.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held in June 2026, to be announced. Donations may be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, or Norwell NVNA and Hospice.
