Brian Kenneth Giedd was born on February 7, 1984, to Ken and Ruth (Hejl) Giedd in Winner, South Dakota. Eagerly awaiting their little brother's arrival on their family dairy farm south of Dallas, South Dakota were Brian's three big sisters, Brenda, Nancy, and Karen, along with paternal grandparents LeRoy and Donna.

Brian's younger years were filled with playing on the farm, hauling gravel in his Tonka truck, playing with sisters, cousins, and neighbors, fishing at local stock dams after chores, and even learning how to do latch hook with Grandma Donna.

Brian attended elementary and high school in Colome where he excelled academically without even trying. He also played the trumpet in band and was recruited by the American Legion to play taps at military services.

Brian attended St. Isadore's Catholic Church in Colome where he was baptized, confirmed, and served in the church.

Brian lived on the farm south of Dallas with his family until 1996 when they moved to Colome. By this time, it was only Karen and Brian at home with Brenda and Nancy away at college.

Brian graduated from Colome High School in 2002 with honors and several scholarships. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, graduating in 2010 with a degree in law and passing the South Dakota Bar Exam.

Brian chose to move to Kearney, NE and work with his friend Brandon in his law office.

Brian passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 41 in his home in Kearney, NE on November 18, 2025. He was a kind-hearted, caring, and gentle soul who is going to be tremendously missed by everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his niece Alexa McKenzie, brother-in-law Lance Schmitz, grandparents Joseph Hejl, LeRoy and Donna Giedd, and great-grandparents.

Mourning his loss are his parents Ken and Ruth Giedd of Colome, SD; sister Brenda Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD; sister Nancy McKenzie of Colome, SD; sister Karen (Randy) Painter of Springview, NE; nieces and nephews: Jasmine (Alex) Goeglein of Fort Wayne, IN; Allan (Kelsey) McKenzie of Winner, SD; Aspyn McKenzie of Colome, SD; Ryan Painter of Springview, NE; Katelyn Painter of Springview, NE; and grandmother Dorothy Hejl of Yankton, SD; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
