Brian Douglas Ponsar, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away in his Hemet home on June 5, 2024 at age 74.
Brian was born to Marvin and Kathryn Ponsar on February 15, 1950 in Culver City, California and was a caring big brother to Bruce and Regina. His lifelong love of music began with guitar lessons from Jim Fielder of Blood Sweat & Tears. He graduated from Valencia High School in 1968 then served our country in the Army at Ft. Richardson, AK followed by a 40 year career in the United States Postal Service.
In 1972 Brian married Janet Holliday and they later became the parents of two children. The young family moved from Riverside to Huntington Beach where Brian could often be found on the sidelines of soccer games, on the softball field or behind home plate as a fill in umpire for little league baseball. He loved to watch airplanes, collect vinyl records, ride roller coasters, take road trips and go to concerts and ball games.
Affectionately known as "The Bear" to some and "Grampa B" to others, Brian was a connoisseur of baked potatoes, mayonnaise, Bob's Bleu Cheese dressing, and pie. He was always available to have a chat (especially about music or politics) lend a hand, give a hug or offer support to anyone in need. Brian's neighbors remember him for his kindness. His family remembers his humor, quick wit, sharp memory and his purposeful efforts to be present in their lives even from a distance.
Brian is survived by his son Chris Ponsar (Yoko), daughter Erin "Lebe" Compton (Aaron), grandchildren Trevor (Megan), "King" Curtis, Tommy (Bailey), Alyssa (Joshua), "Mighty" Mitchell, Mina, Bennett, Camille, Russell, Philip, Sophia, Arthur "Art", Caroline, Lexi, Rachel, great grandson Theodore, sweetheart Josie Mendez, brother Bruce and many others who had the honor to know and love him.
We will miss his presence, his Happy Birthday serenade calls, his homemade mixtapes and CDs, his supply chain of musical instruments, his positivity, laughter, generosity, encouragement and most of all his unending, unconditional love.
