Obituary published on Legacy.com by Minnesota Valley Funeral Home - North Chapel on Jan. 4, 2026.
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Brian Robert Schuck, 65, of
New Ulm, MN.
Funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10:00 am. Father Mark Steffl will officiate the service.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel and will continue from 9:00-10:00 am on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Born August 31, 1960, in
Mankato, MN to Robert "Bob" Schuck and Kathryn "Kay" (Masters) Schuck, Brian grew up as an only child just a few blocks from his grandparents, where he first learned the family businesses – cars, hunting, and sports.
After graduating from Nicollet High School in 1978, he studied business at Mankato State University where he met Shelly Sinell and they joined in marriage on June 7, 1980 at the United Church of Christ in Le Sueur, MN. He promptly traded in his beloved silver Chevy Corvette for something that could hold a car seat (or three!). After starting their family, Brian attended the Chevrolet Dealer Academy in
Detroit, MI where he honed the skills he later used as a third- generation Chevrolet dealership owner with his wife, Shelly, following in his grandfather (Frank Schuck) and father's footsteps.
An avid outdoorsman, Brian enjoyed quiet moments in a duck blind, deer stand, or setting traps with friends and family, traveling throughout Minnesota and the greater Midwest for his next hunting adventure, but nothing ever beat a day on Swan Lake. He shared his love of the
outdoors with his kids and the many foreign exchange "siblings" that came into his life (Jose Carlos Garza, Gabriel DeCelis, and Maria DeCelis – Mexico, and Timo Valkama – Finland). You could always find Brian in a Pheasants Forever or Ducks Unlimited hat, retelling the story of his
daughter Sydney shooting the largest turkey in the family, or Tracy getting two turkeys with one shot!
Affectionately known as "Papa Brian" he was a proud grandpa to six granddaughters – Kaleigh and Weslie, Marin and Maeve, Luka and Lovisa, and (finally!) one grandson – Lennon. They'll remember him for always having an extra bag of M&Ms and sharing his love of cookies together, as well as supporting them in their activities, particularly sports. While we knew him as Papa Brian, hundreds of others knew him as "Coach." He began coaching his daughters' softball teams in 1992 and eventually coached them to Nationals in McAllen, TX. He was heavily involved in the local softball association and was later an umpire ensuring girls always had opportunities to play, but the thing he loved the most was teaching the art of pitching. He attended pitching clinics to learn from the best in the field, truly finding his passion in helping young pitchers meet their goals, many earning All-Conference, All-State, All-Journal Player of the Year, and many other accolades. While the recognition was appreciated, he most valued helping girls find their strength, speed, and their confidence, (plus a mean rise ball, curveball, and killer changeup) with many of his former players winning state championships and continuing at the collegiate level.
A beloved son, father, husband, and grandfather, Brian leaves behind his wife, Shelly, daughters Holly Schuck (Matt Ludewig) of St. Cloud, Theresa Schuck Thorp (Matt Thorp) of Chaska, Tracy Schuck of Chaska, and Sydney Schuck (Mustafa Ekic) of Cottage Grove, as well as his dad, Bob Schuck, many aunts and uncles, cousins, and great friends. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Schuck, and his faithful hunting dogs.
We are forever grateful for the staff at South View Living Center in
Gibbon, MN where Brian was a resident for more than a year. They provided great care and compassionate support as he battled Lewy Body Dementia.
Above all, Brian will be remembered as a faithful servant, a devoted family man, and a coach in the lives of those he loved. While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, reunited with God and welcomed home. His guidance, humor, and love
will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
