James Jerome Hargett, Jr. was the first born son to Rebecca Ann and James Hargett, Sr. on May 1, 1969 in Bertie County Hospital. He was raised in Williamston, North Carolina along with his brother Jacques and sisters Elizabeth and Chrystal Hargett. He was known to family and childhood friends as "Little Jim."
James graduated from Riverside High School in 1987. After graduating from college with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, James moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to start working at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an environmental scientist. At age 29, he became a husband and father. On seeing his son, James decided that it was time to make the truth his own, so he started a study and at the age of 30, was baptized.
After several years living and working in Philadelphia, James met Cheron Ellis at the Eastwick congregation. The two were married on April 24, 2016. In 2017, they started their lives together on Kent Island in Chester, Maryland. They shared nine and a half years together serving Jehovah. He was also appointed as a ministerial servant during COVID.
James had a family-first attitude and a love for the community. He was a self-taught swimmer who enjoyed helping and assisting others in any way possible.
James especially loved nature, live music, reading science-fiction books or watching science-fiction movies. He also loved beautiful sunsets/sunrises, going to beaches and carnivals. Above all of these things, what he loved so dearly, was serving Jehovah. His favorite Scripture is found in Romans 12:12 "Rejoice in hope. Endure under tribulation. Persevere in prayer."
James Jerome Hargett, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cheron Denise Hargett; two sons, James and Joseph Hargett; father, James L. Hargett, Sr.; mother, Rebecca A. Hargett; brother, Jacques (Shirley) Hargett; nephews, Zion and Brice Hargett; sisters, Elizabeth (Wiley) Williamson and Chrystal Hargett; niece, Acceber Hargett; nephews, Aston Hargett and Christian Williamson, sister/cousins, Atoria and Felicia and a host of other family members and friends.
