Bro. James Duyne Hooper, age 91, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Born on November 2, 1934, to the late J.L. and Ludie French Hooper, James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retired Pastor Emeritus, having served for 31 years at Emmaus Baptist Church in Newbern, TN, and continued to serve as a supply pastor for several churches after his retirement. A graduate of Trimble High School, he was the Valedictorian of his class. James also worked as a Terminal Manager for several trucking companies. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2026 at Rehoboth Cemetery with Bro. Tyler Childress and Bro. Jimmy Clay officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his two daughters, Cynthia McClure (Marty) and Jennifer Wood (Rob) all of Dyersburg, TN; a brother, Robert Hooper of Dyersburg, TN; five grandchildren, Cortney Hemphill (Blake), Cara Lee Rose (Blake), Kaitlyn Fussell (Jacob), Sydney Lane (Matt) and Shelley Sides (David); and six great-grandchildren, Finley Fussell, Bennett Lane, Riley Fussell, Tatum Lane, Carter Bette Rose and Megan Sides.

In addition to his parents, Bro. James was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Olive Hooper; and a sister.
