Brone Volertas (nee Telksnys) of Delran, NJ passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the age of 103. She was the beloved wife of the late Vytautas F. Volertas and the devoted mother of Rev. Vytautas C. Volertas and Virgus L. Volertas (Kristina Rociunaite). She was the cherished sister of the late Ona Skrebunas and aunt to Vytas Skrebunas and the late Algis Skrebunas.
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, Brone and her younger sister Ona fled their homeland in 1944 as Soviet forces advanced into Lithuania. Hoping the war would soon end and that they would return home, the sisters instead found refuge in Germany. Their journey eventually brought them to the Kempten Displaced Persons (DP) camp, which primarily housed Lithuanian refugees and was part of a network of camps in the American zone of post–World War II Germany (1945–1950s) established for people forced from their homes.
It was in Kempten that Brone met Vytautas F. Volertas, whom she married in 1948. Under the provisions of the U.S. Displaced Persons Act of 1948, the couple immigrated to the United States in early 1949, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts, and soon traveling to their sponsor family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they began building their new life.
Brone was a woman of deep faith, resilience, and devotion to her family. Having endured the hardships of war and displacement, she built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and gratitude. She remained proud of her Lithuanian heritage and valued the traditions, community, friendships and song that connected her to her homeland throughout her long life. Her quiet strength, kindness, and dedication to family will be remembered by all who knew her.
Brone is survived by her sons Vytautas C. Volertas, Virgus L. Volertas and daughter-in-law Kristina, three grandchildren - Virgus (Sofija), Dainius, and Darius (Grace) - and three great-grandchildren: Virgus, Mykolas, and Aleksandras.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 AM at St. Andrew Lithuanian Catholic Church, 19th and Wallace Streets,
Philadelphia, PA 19130, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
