Bronislaw Winnick
Bronislaw Winnick, of Shelton, beloved husband of Anna S. Winnick for 70 happy years, died on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 101.
Attorney Winnick was born at home in Shelton on December 21, 1923, son of the late Dimitro and Ksenia Winnick. He attended the Shelton schools and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1948 with a degree in Accounting and University of Connecticut School of Law in 1951.
He was a member of the law firm Winnick, Vine, Welch, & Teodosio until his retirement. Attorney Winnick was very active in the Connecticut Bar Association for a number of years, serving as its treasurer, member of the Board of Governors and House of Delegates, member of various committees, including Chairman of the Committee on Unauthorized Practice of Law, Judiciary Committee, and the Committee of Standards of Title, from which he received considerable professional satisfaction.
Attorney Winnick also served as the Prosecutor of the Shelton City Court, and when the municipal courts were replaced by the Circuit Court, he served as Prosecutor in the Circuit Court. He was also a member of the Grievance Panel for the Judicial District of New Haven. In addition, he served as Magistrate in the Connecticut Superior Court.
Locally, he served the City of Shelton as its Representative to the General Assembly, and he was a member of the Charter Revision Commission on two occasions. Attorney Winnick served as General Counsel for Derby Savings Bank for over 30 years before it was acquired by Webster Bank.
He enjoyed classical music and enjoyed playing the classics on his violin. He experienced the thrill of a lifetime when he conducted The San Diego Symphony Orchestra as its Guest Conductor at the 2008 Fourth of July Pops Concert. The Conductor of the orchestra was the renowned Broadway conductor and composer Marvin Hamlisch.
Attorney Winnick was a member of Race Brook Country Club since 1962, and he enjoyed the companionship of many of its members.
He was very proud of his service to the country during the Second World War, having served aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. Cotten (DD669) in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1943 to 1945. The Cotten participated in every engagement from Tawara to Iwo Jima, earning nine battle stars. During General Quarters he served as Director Operator of a twin 40mm heavy machine gun.
Attorney Winnick is survived by his wife, Anna, and his children, Gregory P. Winnick and his wife Linda, Andrew W. Winnick, Attorney Janet A. Winnick and her husband Dennis Arriola, Nancy E. Cluts and her husband Jonathan, Susan W. Dinielli, Attorney Anne E. Loranger and her husband David, and Edward J. Winnick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Winnick and his wife Marcela, Nicholas Cluts, Allison Dinielli, and Hannah Dinielli and her husband Sean Zuvich, and his great-grandson, Benson.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Nellie Dziadik and Olga Ives, and his brother, Walter D. Winnick.
The family of Attorney Winnick extends its gratitude and appreciation to the Veterans Administration with its Home Care Health Team for their compassion and incredible support, and his wife Anna, who were instrumental in maintaining a high quality of life and longevity for him.
The Riverview Funeral Home, 490 River Road, Shelton, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Calling hours will be on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. On Saturday his procession will leave the parlor at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Margaret Mary Church in Shelton. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
