Bruce Douglas Anderson, 89, husband of Judith Anderson, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024.
Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy Henrikson Anderson. He lived, worked and worshiped in the city and suburbs of Chicago for most of his life until he and Judi relocated to Greenville in 1999 for their retirement.
Bruce was a man of strong faith, regularly attending and serving in several churches throughout his lifetime. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Bruce was passionate about his country and its leadership, and especially honoring those fellow veterans who served it. He retired from IBM after 45 years at the company's downtown Chicago location.
Bruce loved spending time with family, especially quizzing his grandkids on school topics and hearing about their sports activities. At Christmas time, he frequently attempted to guess the contents of gifts before he opened them. He was usually right.
He was a devoted fan of all Chicago sports teams, especially the Cubs and Bears, as well as the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. He also developed a sophisticated taste for pizza over the years, preferring a thin, flaky crust over pan-style or deep dish.
In addition to his wife, Bruce is survived by two daughters, Karyn Hoxworth (Tate) and Kelly Norris (Chris); two sons, Eric Anderson (Nikki) and Kevin Anderson (Jessica); nine grandchildren, Caden Hoxworth (C-Ray Sheehan), Brylan Hoxworth, London Hoxworth, Brynn Hoxworth, Tayler Anderson, Trey Anderson, Ty Anderson, Drew Norris, and Cade Norris.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gale Schafer.
A visitation will be held Wed., May 29, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast Chapel followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park.

Bruce was such a kind and thoughtful man.

He would check in on me from time to time just to see how the family and I were doing. He once bought me a matchbox car, which became something we joked and laughed about ever since. I still have it and it reminds me to be thoughtful of others and to find joy in the small things.

The only thing I could hold against him (as a St. Louis Cardinals fan) was his love for the Cubbies. However, I can certainly appreciate his loyalty, whether it be for his employer, teams, friends and family.

He will surely be missed.

We first met Bruce about 25 years ago when our oldest daughter married his & Judi´s oldest son.
Through the years we have enjoyed knowing him. We´re so thankful he was a part of our family.

I share a love of the Cubs with Bruce. I vividly remember carrying in my W flag the day after the Cubs won as I entered the Y and celebrating their win with him. What fun!!!! I will miss his daily visits as he recounted the games and how much a ticket cost when he started attending games. So sorry. Michele Rivera, employee at the Y, Eastside.
