Bruce Carl Anderson, born November 3, 1949, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 9, 2025.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Bruce called Portland, Oregon, home for most of his life. He was a scholar, musician, and loving father, with a playful spirit, tender heart, and a deep love for exploring waterfalls and beautiful scenery. Having a family was his greatest joy.
He graduated from Helix High School in San Diego in 1967 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science with high honors in Chemistry from San Diego State University. From there, he continued on to UCLA for medical school, where he pursued studies in internal medicine, rheumatology, and orthopedics, graduating with the class of 1976.
After completing his residency at Providence Medical Center, he spent most of his career at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, he served as a clinical associate professor of medicine at Oregon Health & Science University.
His other professional accomplishments included authoring several books on orthopedic medicine-published in multiple languages-which led to numerous speaking engagements, including a book tour across the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. His proudest professional moment was lecturing at Harvard Medical School.
He leaves behind three children: Ryan Anderson, Jennifer Schnoor (née Anderson); and Jeremy Procknow. He is also survived by his wife, Gwen Procknow; four beautiful grandchildren, Bodhi, Chloe, Sienna, and Mason, and his sister, Melissa Anderson. Private family services will be held.
We are grateful for the love and support of family near and far and friends and loved ones that have shared their stories and sympathy of Bruce's passing. We welcome any photos that can be shared to the website here.
