Bruce was authentic, kind, gracious, and brilliant. We lost the presence of a quality guy that I was honored to call my friend. A year passed, but his memory and spirit will always bring all who knew him blessings.

Dear Bruce, when I heard that you had gone to be with the Lord I was sad, however I know that you are in a better place. You were such an intelligent person. You were loved by your family especially by your Aunt Geraldine Hinton Green. She was my Godmother and good friend and I pray that you both are reunited. Rest in peace dear Bruce. Nita Gilbert

Bruce and I were high school friends . We met at Wheatley High when we were 16 . Kept in touch throughout our life ! I remember his Grandmother and mother. He wrote great letters of his adventures dur000"ing his enlistment in the Navy . He was proud of his service! His Washington DC experience with Mickey Leeland and other accomplished services. As a Catholics he shared his devotions to family and community! He was a wonderful friend . God Bless

I met Bruce as a regular at Spanish Village. He was always kind, interesting, and most importantly funny. His wicked sense of humor always brightened my night and I will always think of him fondly. I will miss him, and pray that he found peace and love.

My first memory of Bruce Austin was when we attended Atherton Elementary School. Bruce never let nothing stop him from achieving what he wanted. The last time I saw Bruce was during one of our Classmate funeral of Alvin Byrd. There Bruce stood there not able to stand along but had that smile on his face as he has always had. I will miss you Bruce. Now go and get your rest my friend.

One of the smartest humans I have known. A true, dedicated man of integrity that poured history, education policy and advice into me as I served as HISD Trustee; To which I am forever grateful. Rest well my friend and I will miss our late evening phone calls...

Meeting him at the bar and complimenting his voice is my first memory of Mr. Bruce. Since then, he has told the most intriguing stories of some of his experiences while providing amazing advice. He always knew how to make someone day a little brighter and took the time to do so effortlessly. Not sure if I told him enough but he was a truly an amazing friend and person. He will be missed but never forgotten
