Bruce James Bliss

Bruce J. Bliss, 90, a longtime North Attleboro, MA resident, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Alliance at Maples in Wrentham, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late Phebe A. (Benson) Bliss to whom he was married on June 8, 1957, and who died on November 24, 2024.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 18,1935, he was the son of the late Carlton H. Bliss and the late Ethel (McKechnie) Bliss. Raised and educated in North Attleboro, MA, Mr. Bliss was salutatorian of his high school class. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Brown University in 1957.

Mr. Bliss was employed as an engineering manager for numerous companies including Texas Instruments and Englehardt Industries.

He was elected and served thirty-six years as Electric Light Commissioner. He was also a member of the North Attleboro Representative Town Meeting from 1974 until 2002.

He truly loved the ocean and some of his happiest memories were with his family on his boats the Pawnee and Blissful.

He leaves his children: Karen L. Ellis and her husband, James D. Ellis, of Gales Ferry, CT; Judith Bliss Welch and her husband, Richard E. Welch III, of Newburyport, MA; Susan J. Bliss Cohen and her husband, Daniel J. Cohen, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his brother: Robert C. Bliss, Esquire and his wife, Prudy Bliss, of North Attleboro, MA and many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Bruce J. Bliss, Jr. who died in September 2022, and was the brother of the late Donald T. Bliss who died on March 27, 2003, and the late Carl Bliss who died on July 3, 2017.

Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend Visitation on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 11:00 until 12:00 noon in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA followed by a Private Graveside Funeral Service at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, 565 Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, MA.

Burial will follow where he will be laid to rest in the Bliss family plot.
