Bruce Ewing Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowser Family Funeral Home - Mena on Jan. 27, 2026.
Bruce William Ewing, age 93, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at his home. He was born on Thursday, October 6, 1932 to Ralph William Ewing and Audrey Lucy Bruce Ewing in Perry, Oklahoma.

Bruce was a man of faith, wide ranging talents, and enduring devotion to his family. He attended the First Baptist Church of Mena and faithfully served as a Gideon for 15 years. He married his first wife, Ruth Ferrel, in 1951, and they shared many years together until her passing in 1984; in 1985, he married Lana Cook, who preceded him in death in 2019. Bruce worked as a carpenter from 1951 to 1956 before beginning a long career at Sheffield Steel in 1957, where he remained until retiring in 1987 as a Mechanical Engineer. An avid outdoorsman and craftsman, he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and hiking, including a memorable trek from Mena to Talihina, Oklahoma, in 1977, and he skillfully made gun stocks, blued firearms, arrowheads, spear points, and Native American flutes. He was also a gifted photographer and a member of the Tulsa Camera Club, a dedicated bird watcher with the Tulsa Audubon Society, and served as President of the Arkansas Native Plant Society. Above all his accomplishments and interests, Bruce's family was the most important thing to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Ferrel Ewing; his wife, Lana Cook Ewing; and two brothers, Lloyd Ewing and Ralph Ewing.

Bruce is survived by one son, Tony Ewing of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two daughters and son in law, Linda Ewing of Beggs, Oklahoma, and Brenda and Phillip Love of Gaylord, Michigan; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren on the way; his nephew who he was very close with, Ralph Harold Ewing Jr. of Pensacola, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Mount Gilead Cemetery in Rocky, Arkansas with Brother Barry Norman officiating under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.
