Bruce Merrifield Obituary

Visit the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

Bruce Irving Merrifield, 73, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, was called home to the Lord on February 14, 2026, following complications with his heart. Surgery granted his family a few more precious days filled with clarity, strength, and hope. This was a true reflection of his enduring spirit and love for life.

Bruce was born on December 8, 1952, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was the son of Earl “Bud” and Dorice “Dottie” Merrifield. Bonners Ferry was not just his hometown; it was his lifelong community, where he built his career, raised his family, and gave generously of his time and talents.

On February 11, 1978, Bruce married the love of his life, Deanea K. Cox. They built 48 years of marriage grounded in faith, dedication, hard work, and love for family. Together they raised two daughters while living in Moyie Springs and Paradise Valley. Bruce was baptized on May 2, 1986, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Bruce proudly served in the Army National Guard, specializing in the welding trade. He carried that skill into a long and respected career as a millwright and welder. He worked at Louisiana-Pacific Mill of Moyie Springs, then as a roving millwright at Louisiana-Pacific Mill of Chilco and Riley Creek Lumber Company. He later worked as a welder for Sims Implement Company until its closure, and then a millwright at Crown Pacific. Eventually, Bruce pursued his entrepreneurial spirit and founded All Pro Repair Service, specializing in welding, hydraulics, and small engine repair. He was known for his skill, integrity, and willingness to tackle any challenge. Alongside his business, Bruce and Deanea helped manage Sunrise Court, a company they now own.

Bruce served as a volunteer firefighter with the Paradise Valley Fire Department, then City of Bonners Ferry Fire Department — roles that reflected both his courage and his heart for protecting others. Service to others defined Bruce’s life. He devoted countless hours volunteering in his community as a 4-H Leader, Fair Board Member, and with Second Chance Harvest. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Bruce loved the great outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. Even better, were the memories created with family and friends. He often was found riding and training horses, something that came natural with his calm and patient manner. He was known around the community as a kind hearted man with an unmatched hug. He had beautiful blue eyes and a smile that would light up any space. He supported the Badger and was often found at sporting events cheering and sharing his homemade popcorn.

Bruce is preceded in death by his father, Earl “Bud” Merrifield; his mother and stepfather, Dorice “Dottie” and Warren Bauman; his sister, Arlene Schnuerle; and his nephew, Ryan Merrifield.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deanea Merrifield; his daughters, Stephanie (Larry) Falcon and Rebecca (Mike) Fessler; his brother, Lon (Donna) Merrifield; his sisters, Karen (Jim) Blinzler and Delores “Dee” Jenks; his brother-in-law, Bob (Tracy) Cox; his sisters-in-law, Donna Nash, Debbie (Eric) Johnson, and Meghan (TJ) Parker; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee (Hunter) Poindexter, Jadyn Fessler, Adysn Fessler, and Wyatt Fessler. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Bruce’s legacy lives on in the family he loved deeply and the community he faithfully served.

Please join the family in celebration of Bruce Merrifield and the honorable life that he led. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, 1:00 p.m., at Mountain Springs Church, 6789 South Main Street, Bonners Ferry, Idaho 83805.
