Bruce Ohmart Obituary
February 23, 1936 – September 12, 2025
Bruce R. Ohmart, M.D., F.A.C.S., passed away on September 12, 2025, in his home at the age of 89.
Bruce was born on February 23, 1936, in Detroit to the late Dr. Galen B. and Rose Ohmart. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed residencies in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Michigan and Wake Forest University.
Dr. Ohmart proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Army Service Command in Korea providing trauma services. He returned to the United States to lead the Ford Ord Amputee Center in California.
Moving to Alpena in 1970, Dr. Ohmart dedicated his life to the health and well-being of his patients at Alpena General Hospital, now MyMichigan Medical Center, retiring in 2014 as a distinguished orthopaedic surgeon. Over the course of 4 decades, Dr. Ohmart served as Chief of Staff, played a key role in shaping the future of the medical community, and was instrumental in the formation of the Development Council. He appreciated and loved his patients, and strongly supported the affiliation with MyMichigan Health, and his support prevails today.
To honor Bruce's wishes, no formal service is planned. Please remember him by showing kindness to others and giving back to the community. Cremation arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Dr Ohmart saved me from becoming crippled when I moved from Kalamazoo back to Alpena because of a broken leg. I went to Dr. Ohmart and he said oh my goodness we need to take this cast off you could become crippled and he immediately removed the cast and 50 years later I´m still good because of Dr. Ohmart thank you so much.
