Bruce Olson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services on Jan. 7, 2026.
Bruce T. Olson, 76, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Bruce was born on November 10, 1949, in Marquette to Allan F. and Carol C. (Nault) Olson. He was a 1967 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and attended Ferris State University.
On July 11, 1987, Bruce married the former Kimberly J. Larson at the First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba, MI.
Bruce worked for many years with the Central Collegiate Hockey Association as a linesman and later as a supervisor of officials. He also served as an umpire for adult women's and men's baseball and softball leagues. He retired from Northern Michigan University as a building services supervisor in 2014 after over 30 years of employment.
Hockey was a central part of Bruce's life. He spent many hours coaching hockey for his three children, driving them all over Michigan and Wisconsin for games and tournaments. He enjoyed a wide variety of sports and was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Green Bay Packers, as well as Michigan State University athletics. Bruce loved spending time at his camp in Gwinn with his family and friends, having fun out on the lake and watching hummingbirds enjoy the food he always had out for them. Above all, he cherished time with his family and grandchildren. He was deeply patriotic and held great respect for his country and for those who served.
Bruce was a member of the Marquette Elks Club #405, Sons of the American Legion Little Lake Post 349, and served for many years on the board of Marquette Junior Hockey.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Olson of Marquette; his children, Bruce (Fletcher) Olson of Gwinn, Marcy (Tyler) Thompson of Marquette, and Andrea (Stephen) Evans of Fort Benning, Georgia; grandchildren, Bennett and Isadora Thompson, and Harlan and Hailey Evans, and Sara Olson; numerous cousins; and several close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Carol Olson.
In accordance with Bruce's wishes, a celebration of his life will be announced and held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bruce's name to UPAWS, 815 M-553, Gwinn, MI 49841.

I am so saddened to hear about the loss of Bruce. He was such a kind neighbor. My father and I loved him and our entire family, Wes and Ethel my grandparents were so close with Allan Olson at Cliffs Dow where Wes and Allan worked together at the top. Wes sold the camp property to your family in order to have great neighbors. And so you all were... I loved talking to Allan as a child, eating candy from his candy dish. We borrowed his motor boat from time to time. Bruce always let my father borrow his wood splitter, brining it over to our camp for my father to use. He always let him so kindly. He was wonderful. We will always cherish him. My father died in August. I heard from Bruce then and I cannot believe he is gone now. With sorrow... Elizabeth Jenner, Robbinsville NJ [email protected]
