Bruce Shoemaker Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 17, 2024.
Bruce Allen Shoemaker passed away suddenly in his home on 12/02/24. He was born June 16th, 1944 to Ruth (Taylor) and Alden Shoemaker, in Minneapolis. After graduating from Fridley High School in 1962, he started working as a quality engineer for companies like Honeywell and Caterpillar, Inc.
His love for science and medicine brought him back to college at age 50, where he distinguished himself with honors and graduated as Valedictorian from Hennepin Technical College, earning an AAS degree in Practical Nursing. He spent the rest of his career working in elder and hospice care, which he deeply loved, and was a volunteer member of the University of Minnesota Medical Reserve Corps.
He was intelligent and well-read in many subjects including world history, science, nature and politics. He was a romantic and had a goofy, quick-witted sense of humor. He had a tip or trick for everything, was a great storyteller, enjoyed traveling, listening to music and spending time with his loving partner Linda, family and friends. He was a skilled artist and craftsman, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved boating, fishing, hunting and camping.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn Shoemaker (Huro), two daughters Rhonda and Kristen, and grandson Ricky.
He is survived by his partner Linda Berns; brother's Craig (Patricia) and Mark; children Michelle, Richard, Michael (Robyn), Kirk, Mindy (Dale); grandchildren Faith (Chad), Timi, Angela, Derek, Jacqueline, Caden, Skyler, Jordan and Nicholas; great-grandchildren Cole, Clayton, Cooper and Honesty; great-great granddaughter Leilani, and many other family and friends.
