Bruce Stoehr Obituary

Bruce Stoehr passed away at home on October 30, 2025 at the age of 94. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bruce was born in Mountain, WI in 1931 to Opal and Henry Stoehr.

Bruce attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School where he met the love of his life Jane. They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Bruce was a surgeon, as well as an avid gardener, hunter, biker, skier, boater and sailor. He was proud to serve as a Captain in the Army and he and Jane lived in Hawaii, Kansas, and Kentucky before settling in Green Bay in the summer of 1965. He was a team physician for the Packers under Vince Lombardi, President of the West Side Clinic for 16 years, a respected surgeon for 28 years, and on numerous boards. He was President of the WI branch of American College of Surgeons and a proud supporter of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Green Bay.

Bruce and Jane are charter members of Resurrection Parish and he served on the Finance committee. He served as a Boy Scout troop leader for several years and took multiple camping trips to his land in Gresham with the boys and was a Member of the Retired Men's club of Green Bay.

Most of all, Bruce was a man devoted to his family, spending hours driving the boat so his kids could waterski and tube on the Fox River, Shawano Lake and at Nicolet Bay; retrofitting the van to fit 8 pairs of skis for the weekends at Ski Brule and loading eight bikes in the boat to take to Peninsula State Park for annual summer vacations. Some of his favorite adventures with Jane were a bike and barge trip in France, skiing in Germany, Canada and New Zealand, and hunting trips to Deer camp in Gresham with his oldest friends. Over 40 years, many wonderful times were spent in Ephraim with the family. The last few years he became very fond of watching the birds and other wildlife in the yard from his favorite chair in the den. He loved the outdoors.

Bruce was a real hard worker and he passed that on to his kids (whether they wanted to or not), but he also taught them how to play hard. They had a lot of fun together and still do today.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane (Cox) Stoehr, and his 6 children, Dr. Bruce (Sheila) Stoehr, Jr., Robert (Terri) Stoehr, Julie Campbell, Amy (Fred) Thorbahn, Tim (Tyra) Stoehr and Dr. Tom Stoehr; his 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Tal), Ben, Sarah (Brandon), Henry (fiancee Haley), Emma, Alex, Sean, Garrett, Halden and Anders; great granddaughter Addison Jane; his sisters Burnell Van Egeren and Faye (Stan) Kiefer and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Opal Stoehr, in-laws George and Gladys Cox, Carl and Sally Degen, Jim Van Egeren, nephew Michael Van Egeren and grand niece, Emma Welter.

Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Saturday, November 15, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00am with Rev. Robert Kollath officiating and Rev. Paul Demuth as homilist.

Many thanks to St. Croix Hospice, especially Erica and Sabine and CNA Becca for their support and compassion. A special thank you to his nephew, Mark VanEgeren, for his lifelong friendship, texts, calls and visits that allowed Bruce to stay updated on his hometown of Gresham until the end of his days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or New Community Shelter of Green Bay.
