Bryce Barnes Obituary
Bryce Edwin Barnes Sr., 95, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in The Lakes of Monclova. Born November 13, 1929, in Ottawa, Ohio, to Brice Edwin and Leona Pearl (Moran) Barnes. Bryce served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. Bryce married Shirley McIlrath on December 5, 1953, and they were married over 66 years before her passing. Bryce retired from Motor Carrier Service as a Driver and Mechanic for 25 years.
Bryce enjoyed gardening, tinkering in the garage and watching NASCAR. He could fix anything and would help anybody. He also enjoyed attending many of his grandchildren's events with which they were involved. He will be truly missed.
Bryce was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley A. Barnes; sister, Esther Campbell; brothers, Gerald and Robert Barnes; grandson, Bryce Kramer. Surviving is his son, Bryce (Sonya) Barnes Jr.; daughter, Linda (Mark) Shifflett; grandchildren, Amanda (Brett) Freyer, Kyle (Lindsey) Kramer, Katelyn (Josh) Bius; great-grandchildren, Grayson Freyer, Colson Kramer, Lucas Freyer, Tripp Kramer, Jett Kramer; great-granddaughters, Lacey Bius, Kollyns Kramer.
The family would like to truly thank the Legacy staff at the Lakes of Monclova for the love, care, and support they provided for Bryce while he was a resident. They also extend a thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care during his final days.
The family will receive friends at The Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd, Monday, November 10, 2025, 4:00-7:00 p.m., where services will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
