Bernice "Bunny" Joan Cordell
Bernice was born on Easter Morning, April 12, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota. As a result, she adopted the nickname "Bunny" which she carried with her all through her life. She attended Saint Jean Baptiste kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated from there in 1954. A lifelong Duluth resident Bernice held many jobs in her time here from clerical duties and substitute teaching for ISD # 709 to her time as a home health aide. She devoted her life to helping others including the over 100 children she cared for through foster care over the years.
She was a published author and especially enjoyed writing children's stories and articles. She also enjoyed drawing, painting, puzzles, traveling, needlework, ceramics, gardening, music, bowling, and taking care of her cats. She was president of the Duluth Area Manuscript, Queen Mother of the September Red Hat Society, a member of the Saturday Morning Singles, and part of the Mayor's Advisory Committee.
Proceeded in death by parents Steven and Sarah Karger. 1st Husband, Robert Barlage. 2nd Husband William Cordell. Grandson Steven LeBeau. Sister Claudia Greenwood.
Survived by Children Daughter Beth Brannan (Rob Wnuk), Son Shawn Cordell. Grandchildren Marvin Gabrielson (Faith Marsh), Joey Brannan (Brenna), Sara LeBeau, Great Grandchildren Dijonay, Noelle, Vada, Adrionna, Leia. Nephew Mike (Tami) Halliday. Great Niece Ashley. Step Granddaughters Jennifer, Tammy, Crystal, and many step great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at 10 AM on Tuesday, the 4rd of November 2025 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota-Duluth 4100 Grand Ave Duluth, MN 55807. A Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM followed by a reception.
